2022 is almost over, huh? Another year has flown by.

Not feeling too wordy just now so just gonna share my artist and writer wrapped (click to enlarge the images).

Ah, it's been a minute, Dreamwidth! I haven't been as active on here but hope everyone is well!

So, I forgot to do a writing recap for February so this post covers both February and March. How did I go? Well, February I only wrote 4.8k words while March I managed 6.5k words. But thanks to my big buffer in January, I'm still a month ahead of my GYWO goal (now at 33%). Hopefully I can keep it up!

After reading the manga Billy Bat in February I posted this fic. It's the only fic in the Billy Bat series tag on AO3 so I didn't expect much of a response, it was more something I just felt the need to write for after reading it. That was the majority of my writing that month.

In March, I added a bit to my One Piece multi-chapter wip, however, I'm waiting until I'm finished to post it. I also binged the series Our Flag Means Death (it's so good and gay, I highly recommend it) and couldn't resist writing some fic for it! I posted this little fic and also wrote some more stuff that I have yet to post.

Anyway that's about it! Also regarding OFMD, I'm surprised HBO still haven't announced a season two. Like they would be foolish not to, given how the fandom has exploded in under a week. But hopefully by this time next month it will be announced!

And just like that January is over all ready. I think I had a decent month, writing-wise. I managed to write 13,433 words of my 75,000 yearly word count goal for [community profile] getyourwordsout. That is 17.9% of my goal. Those words were split between 14 days of the month.

So what did I write? Well I wrote a couple of drabbles and short fics for some writing prompt communities (such as [community profile] fandomweekly, [community profile] chenqing_100, & [community profile] 100ships). I also received tarot card prompts as part of GYWO's January challenge, which I used to start a new MDZS fic but I'm not too happy with how that one is turning out. And lastly, I started a new One Piece fic which I was really excited about but now the initial excitement has worn off haha.

I couldn't really get my mind back into a good writing headspace near the end of the month, so here's hoping the new month will get me kick-started again.

Hope you folks had a good January too, whether you made progress towards your goals or not! :>

In your own space, rec a fanwork (fic, art, vid, playlist, anything!) you did not create.

Oh boy! I have so many wonderful fanworks to recommend, but for this post I'm gonna go with:
No Time To Crank The Sun by VIKAN. (One Piece, gen)

He’s surrounded by strangers, but they’re all trying to convince him otherwise. Or, Zoro faces a mysterious and relentless challenge that he just can’t wrap his head around.

Where do I even start with this fic? Well for one, it took me on a wild emotional roller coaster. And for two, it had me hooked; I was constantly trying to figure out the mystery and how they would cure Zoro.

Because of how vast One Piece is, fics in the fandom have so much potential. So much potential to expand on Oda's world-building and convey the depth of love the crew has for one another. VIKAN managed to do this and more. They really emphasised the importance of friendship and achieved this with their solid characterisations. And it was just so emotionally impactful. I still think back to some of the scenes that really shook me.

I really enjoyed the premise of the fic (great hurt/comfort material) but it was made even better by VIKAN's execution; they followed through and delivered an amazing fic all around. I really enjoyed reading it and if you're into One Piece I would highly recommend you read it too!

In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren't your cup of tea.

AUs! Oh how I love them. As much as I love canonverse content, I do tend to write and read modern AUs a fair bit. I think I just find them easier to consume and create sometimes. Modern AUs featuring office jobs, coffee shops, reality shows, or social media are just a few that I enjoy.

What I really love, though, are sports AUs! As someone who enjoys watching a lot of sports, writing them is somewhat second nature to me. They're probably the one AU I'm fairly confident writing and detailing correctly. However, the side effect of this is if I'm reading a sports AU featuring a sport I'm fairly familiar with, I will notice wrong details. While I'm not really fazed by them—mistakes are natural— they do manage to throw me out of the fic for a few moments haha. But it truly is great reading and writing about intense rivalries or great teamwork! Whether it's Naruto vs. Sasuke, or Luffy as captain with the Straw Hats filling the rest of his team, the options are endless.

Some works of mine using specific modern AUs:
lost in her DMs // She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, sports, social media
upstaged // One Piece, theatre

I would recommend some of my favourite reads, but there are too many. Feel free to peruse my AO3 bookmarks, though!
